Flat Grave Markers (Flush Markers)

Granite markers set flush with the ground — the most economical style and the one most widely accepted by cemeteries. Polished top, sawcut sides.

About this style

A flat grave marker — often called a flush marker — is a solid piece of granite set level with the ground, so the polished face looks up at you as you stand at the grave. It is the quietest of the memorial styles and the most economical, and it is the style most widely accepted by cemeteries, including sections where nothing taller is permitted. Ours are cut with a polished top and sawcut sides: the sides sit below grade, so all of the finish work goes into the one face your family will actually see.

Because the whole memorial is a single polished surface, the layout carries the design. We sandblast-engrave the name, dates, and verse into the granite, then set the artwork around them so the stone reads clearly at a glance — even a 24-inch marker holds a name, dates, a verse, and a catalog design comfortably. Sierra White granite is our standard and takes engraving beautifully, but we source granite from quarries around the world, so you can also choose from a full range of blacks, grays, and earth tones.

A single flat marker starts at $1,100, and that figure is not a teaser — it includes one name, dates, a verse, a design from our catalog, and Sierra White granite. Before you settle on a size, check with your cemetery: many dictate exact marker dimensions for each section, which is why confirming cemetery requirements is the first step of our design process.

Who chooses this style

A good fit when…

  • Families whose cemetery section only permits flush memorials
  • Anyone who wants a dignified granite memorial at the most economical price
  • Couples marking side-by-side graves — one wide marker can carry both names
  • Parents choosing an infant marker, which we size and letter with particular care

Personalization

Making it theirs

Every flat marker is personalized the same way our largest monuments are. Start with a design from our catalog — the base price includes it — or describe what you have in mind and we will draw it for your approval. A ceramic or porcelain memorial photo can be added and carries a lifetime warranty; we can merge photographs and remove or replace backgrounds so the portrait looks exactly right. Any painted surfaces carry a 10-year warranty. You will see a proof of everything, and nothing is engraved until you have signed off on the final version and placed a deposit.

Common questions

Families often ask us

What does the $1,100 starting price include?

The starting price covers a single flat marker with one name, dates, a verse, a design from our catalog, and standard Sierra White granite. It does not include sales tax or your cemetery's setting and endowment fees. Larger sizes, additional names, memorial photos, and upgraded granite colors are quoted clearly before you approve anything.

Can a flat marker include two names?

Yes. A single-grave marker with two names runs 28" × 16", and a side-by-side marker over two graves runs 36" × 12" — up to 48" wide depending on the artwork. We will lay out both names in a proof so you can see exactly how the stone reads before it is engraved.

How long does a flat grave marker take?

If your granite is in stock, production typically takes 6 to 10 weeks after you approve the final proof. Fully custom work can take 3 to 6 months. Overall, plan on 1 to 6 months from order to delivery — and your cemetery usually prepares the ground before the marker arrives.

Do you install flat markers?

We install everything we fabricate throughout Nevada and Northern California. Some cemeteries require their own installer, in which case we deliver the finished marker to them. Families elsewhere in the U.S. order by phone or email, and we arrange delivery to their cemetery or its approved installer. Local pickup is also available.
