Headstone Questions, Answered

Straight answers from a family that has designed, carved, and installed memorials since 1979 — no jargon, no runaround.

Most families are buying a headstone for the first time, so no question is too basic. Below are the ones we hear most, grouped by where you are in the process. For deeper reading, our buyer’s guides cover each topic in detail, our pricing page publishes every starting price, and the design process page walks through all five steps from first call to installation. And if you’d rather just talk, call 775-323-1835— you’ll reach the people who do the work.

Where to begin, why families plan ahead, and what we make.

Getting Started

I've never bought a headstone before — where do I begin?

Start by getting familiar with the standard memorial styles: flat (flush) markers, bevel markers, slants, upright monuments, benches, and cremation estates. Our 5-step design process walks you through cemetery requirements, style, size, granite, and personalization. From there, we work with you one-on-one — by phone, email, or in person — from the first design proof through delivery and placement.

Why do people buy headstones in advance (pre-need)?

Many families design their own headstone ahead of time so their final wishes are settled and nothing is left to question. For couples, a companion memorial can be completed for both, with the surviving spouse's date added later.

Do you make bronze memorials and plaques?

Yes — we offer a wide selection of bronze memorials and plaques, including bronze-on-granite markers required by many memorial parks. Call to discuss your specific needs.

Real starting prices and honest production timelines.

Pricing & Timelines

How much does a headstone cost?

Our base prices: single flat (flush) markers start at $1,100, bevel markers at $1,325, slants at $1,850 ($2,850 with a granite base), upright monuments at $3,650, and memorial benches at $3,600. Base prices include a single name, dates, a verse, a design from our catalog, and standard Sierra White granite. Photos, laser etching, premium granite colors, vases, and double-sided engraving add to the cost. Prices do not include sales tax or cemetery setting fees.

Do I need to wait a certain amount of time before ordering a headstone?

No — you can begin the process at any time. Production and delivery typically take one to six months depending on size, design, customization, and granite color. Most cemeteries will have the ground prepared and cement poured before your memorial is delivered.

How long does it take to receive a headstone?

Once you approve the final proof, headstones using inventory stock are typically completed in 6–10 weeks. Fully custom headstones and monuments may take 3–6 months. Quarry location, granite availability, design changes, weather, and shipping can all affect the timeline.

Design & Personalization

How custom can I make my design?

Almost anything is possible. If you've seen a headstone that isn't in our catalog, we can make it — or we'll work from your own vision, hand-drawn artwork, or photographs. The design process is collaborative: we go through as many proofs as needed, and nothing goes into production until you sign off on the final proof.

Can I put a photograph on the memorial?

Yes. We use ceramic or porcelain memorial photos, which can be made in many sizes and are attached directly to the headstone. Photos can feature an individual, a couple, or a family — and we can remove or replace backgrounds, or merge two photos into one. Photos are covered by a lifetime warranty.

How is the carving and design done?

We use sandblast engraving — the most effective technique for deep, crisp, long-lasting lettering and artwork in granite.

Are your headstones covered by a warranty?

Yes. All painted surfaces (lettering, for example) are covered by a 10-year warranty, and memorial photos are covered by a lifetime warranty. Other warranties may apply case by case. Vandalism and normal weathering after ten years aren't covered, but we offer repainting and monument restoration services for a fee.

Cemeteries, Installation & Care

Can I put any memorial I want in my cemetery?

Not always — every cemetery has its own rules. Some cemeteries only allow flush markers, and many have section-by-section restrictions on style and size. Checking your cemetery's regulations is step one of our design process, and we're happy to help you find that information.

Who installs the memorial?

We typically install every memorial we fabricate. Some cemeteries require their own installers — in those cases we deliver the monument to the cemetery for you.

Do you sell headstones outside of Nevada?

Yes. Families anywhere in the U.S. can work with us by phone and email — the design and proof-approval process is exactly the same. We install throughout Nevada and Northern California, offer local pickup, and can arrange delivery to your cemetery or its approved installer elsewhere. Call us to discuss your situation.

Do you restore or repaint old monuments?

Yes. We offer re-staining, repainting, and refurbishing services for existing monuments. Call us for a quote.
